This was around 1941 according to the document. This is his original signature. To think that almost 70 years later his image would be posted on the internet.
The hard times of that era show on Grandas face, he is my age in this photo but looks so much older then 60,(well i think so)(i must get a new mirrror i have this one since i was 30) anyway times have really changed. Great to see this photo of Granda.
I have that same mirror! I saw this document in Mams the other day and it is in great condition, and I too wondered at the idea of all of us looking at it so many years later. It is date stamped on every occasion he left and returned to England, just like a passport, and the writng is just beautifully done, not like the scribbles that are so often seen now. The case Florrie gave Mam is a treasure chest, this was also made by Granda himself for Mam. Just great......
I agree Phyllis, he does look older than his years, It is hard for us to imagine in this day and age the everyday battle of day to day life back ten. And it is written all over his face.
Also ladies, there is nothing wrong with your mirrors..

This is dated after Evelyn and Rita were born.
I didn't know that Therese. Thank you for pointing it out.
My mother would like to say "i love these picture of my dad, and although he is gone, i still love him and think about him all the time"
I was wondering about the year too Therese.
Glad you said something.
