Ireland Trip In 1974
These are a few snaps of a hitch hiking trip that Paul and I took around Ireland in 1974. Unfortunately we didn't come back from this trip the way we left.
I don't think I have posted these photos before.
This was the trip that nearly cost us our lives. We had hitch hiked from Dublin through Cork and lots of other places including kissing the Blarney Stone. We got stuck at the Rock of Cashel and couldn't get a ride for hours. Finally a small Fiat came along with a young driver. We got in, thankful to get out of the cold, and drove off.
I had a sudden premonition that something was going to happen and, as Paul was in the front seat, I told him to fasten his seat belt which he did. A few minutes later we smacked into a Morris Minor that had been parked with no reflectors or lights on a country road. The driver of the little fiat had been drinking and driving very fast. This was long before breathalysers or drunk driving laws.
Next thing I knew I was waking up in a pile of broken glass and with Nun's feet walking around me in a glare of headlights. I had hit my head on the seat and was cut deeply above the upper lip and they eye. I also had some leg damage. Paul was very lucky to have fastened the seatbelt. he hurt his leg but was otherwise unharmed.
They took us to the hospital where they stitched me up and we were driven up to Dublin in an ambulance the next day with a few nurses.
We arrived home to the house the day after I think.

Happy Birthday To Chloe, She Is 10 Today.
A few words about Chloe, I know we all have great things to say about our children so I'm gonna keep that tradition up. Everyday Chloe amazes me with her unbelievable kindness she is truly a lovely little person who brings sunshine to my life. So a big happy birthday and lots of love from Mam, Dad, Holly and Sean.

These are also from Dor. She tells me the one of Mam and Dad was on Cecil's camera. I know that I have seen this photo before and I am sure it is on my computer. I think it was taken at the Dublin Zoo in the '50's and was one of a series. How then was it taken with Cecils camera? I remember the outfits, that was Mam's favorite coat and Dad's favorite outfit. I seem to remember remarking on this photo in a previous post. I love this shot because they both look carefree and happy and glad to be out. A rare outing in those days.,

The Stewart Park Dog Lover Gang
This a collection of dog lovers who walk their dogs at around the same time every day give or take fifteen minutes or so. Questions are asked if you miss more than a few days and your wherabouts are the subject of speculation.
Hail, rain or snow these 'habituees' are there with their dogs. Many global problems are either discussed or solved on this patch of green grass on a daily basis. There is much conversation on the way things are today as opposed to the way they were , from music to general behavior. It never gets boring.

News from up north
Sorry for not posting in a long time. I have been busy with new projects. This is my new and renovated workbench
This is part of my newly renovated shop where I teach fly tying and sell various fly tying and flyfishing equipment
This is a new kitchen island our next door neighbour made for us, the top is made from cherry , he also made the cherry bowl that sits on top. This was inspired by the island Colin made for his kitchen last year.
Here are some wild Turkeys, that stopped by our back yard this morning to do a little scratching around the bird feeders, we get a lot of animals coming by during these hard winter months.
