VEry funny Anita, They were boring times. I remember you as a baby, I would sit and read and my leg was trained to keep you in constant motion. You loved to be rocked, and wheeled back and forth. I would sit in the chair with my foot on the wheel and roll you back and forth. You had one of those proper prams, real springy. and you would sit in it with your straps on, looking at me.
Funny story about the pram Colin, that pram was a classic of its day, I think it was called a swallow...anyway the springs broke on it, unheard of...they went because of the strain they were under!!!! Anyway Anita always maintained that she was bored as a baby, and indeed she always wanted to be sitting up, wanting to know what was going on around her.
I remember you all as babies and you were all always bored. So bored that the bawling went on all night sometimes. I remember one particular night when whoever was in the cot wouldn't shut up and was driving the Mother crazy as she couldn't get any sleep either, so I came up with a great idea; I would say a prayer and then the crying would stop. So I said a prayer and lo and behold shortly thereafter there was no more crying. When I got up the next day I told Mam what I did. She told me that the crying went on all night and that she didn't get any sleep. I didn't realise that I had fallen asleep myself and mistook it for divine intervention. I remember those prams but I can't remember the brand name. They were little works of engineering art and were so light with a suspension that rivaled a Mercedes. I have a photo of myself in one of those prams when I was one or so. If I can locate it I will post it. I have strong memories of those prams. I spent a lot of time holding on to the bar as wheover the latest addition was was wheeled around the village. These are great videos from Paul and I really like seeing them. Raymond looks just great. Nice to see all the activity on the blog.
I posted the photos of the pram and even signed it at the tender age of six months. This photo was taken on October 21st 1946. Look at those lovely big blue eyes and that look of pure innocence. I haven't changed a bit.
On behalf of Mam, and in her words, (WTF) the only one that "bawled" night and day was YOU Jim, not because you were "bored" you were just bad tampered and "bored' is an excuse for bad temper ....!
Excuuuuuse me!!!! Let me direct your attention to that lovely little face gazing out from his pram in what would later become his classic film star pose and tell me that there was peep out of him.
Poor choice of words. Upon reflection, the word 'bawling' does not adequately reflect the slight disturbances caused by any tears shed by any of the family. The word has a Dickensian quality to it and makes one think of urchins rather than children. This was not the case. There were no "bawling" children in the family at all. Except for Phyllis that is.
