I remember the day he was killed. I was working in a church in Irishtown. I spent the day sitting in the sanctuary listening to Radio Dublin. A very very sad day, that I remember to this day in vivid detail.
I don't know where I was the day John Lennon was killed and for some reason it didn't seem to have that much of an impact on me. It was not to be compared with JFK for the simple reason that he was shot while he still had so much promise. John Lennon had already left us with a lifetime of music. It was still a sad day though.
I remember now. I was in Paris, it was just before I came to the US.
I was watching Johnny Carson on TV. Terry was at work (waiting on Jules Newman, (Dr. Nose) yes at 11:30 PM)
When he came home and I told him, we were both so sad. It's hard to watch every thing on TV because I still think it was such a terrible waste. I guess we just don't do enough for mental health in this country.
I guess it was just the fragility of things. I had never been a big fan of John Lennon, and it was long before the Beatles came back into the light. It just seemed like such a terrible tragedy, and so very close to home. It also brought a very fractured generation together, and for a little while we were all looking at the same thing, and thinking pretty much the same thing.
