One of the reasons I put this up and one of the reasons I called it the end of an era is because; these were the film stars when we were children. There was a great interest in our hourse in these people and magazines like ' Screen Stars' were always around . Aunt Pat used to have a lot of opinions on the stars of the day and we used to talk about them around the fire when she came up. Her favorite film star was Robert Mitchum because he was a ' real man' and she was convinced that Grace Kelly got her Oscar because someone bribed someone in Hollywood. We were always up on the latest gossip and the latest films and musicals such as Carousel ' Marty' and all the film stars. Tony Curtis was just one of them. Mam was no slouch in this department either and though she was usually pretty busy she was well up on all the latest films and gossip and is to this day. Speaking of Marty: the actor who played Ernest Borginine's pal 'Angie' in the 1955 film died today too. His name was Joe Mantell. He is the one who said ' well, whatcha feel like doin' tonight?'.
Ah poor old Tony, loved him in Trapeze with Burt lancaster (another great actor) and Some like it hot with the great Jack Lemmon, btw i love the movie Carousel, it's my favorite movie. i love when Julie sings "when you walk through a storm" to Billy Bigelow at the end!!
When I was a child I had a crush on TC. I thought he was so dreamy. P.S. Jim, did you know that Grace Kelly grew in the East Falls section of Philadelphia? Her parents house was on Henry Avenue. We used to drive past it on occasion.

just heard about Tony on the news, its very sad, and truly the end of an era...he was a great actor..
Just watched The Vikings with Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas last week on telly. I used to love that movie...
ODEN, SEND THE WIND AND TURN THE TIDE, ODEN..
When I watched it last week I thought it was hysterical to listen to the flat bronx accent on a Viking, with no attempt to cover it at all.
It is an end of an era. Not too many of these guys around anymore.

I knew she was from a well to do home in Philadelphia. I would have liked to see it.
My mistake "Julie" didn't sing "Never walk alone" in the movie.
Yes, it was the older lady who sang it
