This is such a great photo. The look on Da's face, Ray leaning into him, and the pants in the socks. I can only imagine him cycling to the zoo with the kids on the crossbar. Great, touching photo.
I still cannot figure this out... There was Da, Audrey, Ray.. and who else.. Someone took the photo. And if there was someone else, where did they fit on the bike.
Plus, Kilmainham Hill.. I am sure everyone remembers biking home from the park up that hill.. with three people on board..
THIS WAS THE OLD RALEIGH WAR HORSE A BIG BIG BIKE WITH A SADDLE ON THE CROSSBAR WITH FOOT RESTS ON THE FRAME...BUT IT ALSO HAD A SEAT ON THE BACK......AND KILMAINHAM HILL....NOTHING TO A MAN WHO WALKED EVERYWHERE...BUT WHAT I REMEMBER IS THE COUNTER-LEVER BRAKES....THEY COULD GIVE YOU A NASTY PINCH IF YOU HAPPEN TO IGNORE DADS ADVICE...."KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT OF THE WAY OF THE BRAKES" MANY A BRUISE I GOT FROM THIS
I can see them now, with that cam thing with the point on the end, that served no other purpose than to cause injury, what contraptions they were. Nasty pinches on the fingies in the bitter cold of the Irish summer.
Jayz'Jem. I remember it well.

I remember them all taking off on the bike for the zoo that day. A sight to behold ! Believe me.

Yes of course, I remember that. "Bar Brake's".
