I worked there for one pound and five shillings a month which went up to one pound ten when I learned how to fix punctures. What a thrill. I was about fourteen at the time so it was around 1960 or even 1959. One day I was riding the bike down this road so fast that when I made the turn to go in through the door of the garage I couldn't make the turn and went straight into the wall beside the garage door. The highlight of the time there was when Brendan O'Dowda came in to fill his MG. He chatted to me for a while and was very nice. I hated that place, greasy , dirty and roughneck employees.
There was a pub just beyond the phone box that can be seen in this photo...it was called Val Hattons (AT THE TIME) and was where uncle Des had a pint or two on occasions.the garage is still there i think or was up to a few years ago
